GBIO on Rachel Maddow!
GBIO has been tackling concerns around immigration and democracy through our Solidarity Organizing Team and the recently launched "Not With Our Money, Citizens!" campaign. This campaign seeks to reduce the financial power of CoreCivic and GEO Group, the biggest players in the private prison industry supporting ICE operations. We discovered that these companies receive financial support from Citizens Bank, with which GBIO has a long history. As customers of Citizens, we will not stand by and allow our money to be used to fuel the mass deportation and detention machine.
On May 4th we held a press conference outside of the Copley Square Citizens Bank to announce that we would withdraw $1 million from the Bank due to this problem and their slow movement on scheduling a meeting with us, as agreed to at their annual shareholder meeting on April 23rd. The story was noticed by MSNOW’s Rachel Maddow, and Rev. John Edgerton of Old South Church was invited to be interviewed later that evening! Watch Rev.
